I'm a designer with a small business called Grow. We design, manufacture and retail kids' clothing, bedding and other products. We have a store/studio just north of a historic shopping district in Denver, and we also have our offices and warehouse in the same space.

I've been a designer in various forms for over 20 years. I began my career as an art director for a publishing company in Arizona, and then got married and moved to Chicago. In Chicago I worked for several pretty high-profile design firms before deciding that I was constitutionally unable to work for high-profile design firms. I started my own graphic design business in 1992 and have worked for myself ever since. My latest professional passion is pattern design and I'm attempting to post on this blog at least one original pattern per day.

Until last year, I always had a home office. Now I have an office space within walking distance (although I rarely walk...that will be a New Year's resolution) and a little cleared-off spot on the dining room table for my laptop. My WAH spouse, Ted, is an urban planner, and we share a rarely tidy Craftsman-style bungalow with our three boys -- Henry, 12; Gus, 8; and Ernie, 2 -- two cats, Sadie Scout & Olive, and an extra-large goldfish named Hank.

This blog will commingle personal and professional posts because home and work are so intertwined that it seems dishonest (or at least boring) to try to separate them.
